What is the major difference between MYCIN and EMYCIN?

Answer: MYCIN was an early expert system that used artificial intelligence to identify bacteria causing severe infections, such as bacteraemia and meningitis, and to recommend antibiotics, with the dosage adjusted for patient’s body weight – the name derived from the antibiotics themselves, as many antibiotics have the suffix “-MYCIN”. The MYCIN system was also used for the diagnosis of blood clotting diseases. Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that has an antimicrobial spectrum similar to or slightly wider than that of penicillin, and is often prescribed for people who have an allergy t penicillins. For respiratory tract infections, it has better coverage of atypical organisms, including Mycoplasma and legionellosis.
